The ‘in’ thing to eat on hot summer days at the moment is frozen yogurt. It is cold like ice cream but has less fat and sugar.

There are still only a few places in Vienna to get frozen yogurt in its various forms. So what is the secret of this cool and seemingly healthy refresher? Just take a frozen low-fat yogurt, add a little sugar, choose one or more toppings – from fruit and chocolate chunks to jelly babies, whatever suits your fancy – and enjoy your cold treat.
Frozen yogurt for everyone
Kurt is the favourite for frozen yogurt in the city centre. Its lounge and outdoor tables are an inviting place to while a way a few moments. The frozen yogurts come in various sizes and are also available to go. There are three different yogurts and 20 toppings, and all components, from the cup made of sugar cane residue to the fruit and honey, are fair trade products and hence environmentally sound.

Foxy Frozen Yogurt near Karlsplatz has an endless choice of combinations. The toppings range from fruity mango to crunchy chocolate chips and liquid caramel sauce. The parfait with two layers of frozen yogurt and three layers of toppings is a veritable flavour bomb.

Ice cream and frozen yogurt are not necessarily ‘enemies’ but can also live happily side by side, as proved by the Italian ice-cream parlour Zanoni & Zanoni, where both items can be found on the menu.

What and where?
Healthy enjoyment?
Frozen yogurt looks like soft ice cream, tastes wonderfully creamy and has only 100 to 130 kcal per 100 g. By comparison, 100 g of vanilla ice cream has 200 kcal. There is also the topping to be considered, however. Favourites include not only fruit but also chocolate chips or biscuit, and it is this that decides how healthy this frozen dairy product is in reality. The figure-conscious “enjoy Vienna” staff are nevertheless agreed that one frozen yogurt surely doesn’t do much harm to the bikini body!
