Vienna Ticket: New Product for Rail Passengers from Bratislava to Vienna
As of 1 June 2006 a so-called “Vienna Ticket” is being introduced for railway passengers travelling from Bratislava to Vienna. This enables them to use the Vienna public transport system at reduced cost.
The Vienna Ticket is a reduced-price network ticket for public transport facilities in Vienna. It is valid on the day of purchase. The Slovak railway company ŽSSK sells the ticket as a bonus to its return ticket from Vienna-Bratislava.
With this special offer the partners involved – the ŽSSK, the ÖBB (Austrian Federal Railways) ‑Personenverkehr AG and the public transport systems in the two capitals (Vienna Lines and DPB Bratislava) – want to encourage visitors from Bratislava to Vienna to use the train. “This will strengthen the feeling of neighbourliness between Vienna and Bratislava”, says the Ticket’s godfather Martin Bolldorf, Austria’s ambassador to Slovakia.
Contribution towards environmental protection
All the partners regard the cheap Vienna Ticket as a contribution towards active environmental protection since it provides an additional incentive to use public transport. The Vienna Ticket costs € 3; the requisite Bratislava-Vienna return ticket € 7.70.
A similar product, the Bratislava Ticket, has been available since the autumn of 2005 for journeys from Vienna to Bratislava. Included in the price of an ÖBB return ticket there is a similar price-reduction included for public transport in the Slovak capital.
