12th Sarajevo Film Festival

72 young scientists from Vienna have this year submitted their theses and dissertations for the "INiTS Award". This prize is intended to encourage scientific work which is both innovative and commercially viable. The prize will be awarded in October 2006.

Three divisions
Invitations to participate were extended to students of Vienna universities and technical high-schools about to complete their theses and dissertations. The announcement was made in three categories: Information and Communications Technology, Life Sciences and Other Scientific and Technical Sectors.

A specialist jury will now assess all the 72 works submitted according to the novelty of the product or service, as well as to economic usability.

Using Viennese Knowledge
There are three prizes (worth € 2,000, € 1,500 and € 1,000 respectively) in each category which are specially appreciated by the young students and graduates because they are known to ease the path ahead - or perhaps help in setting up a company.

Many sponsors
The society organising the competition, INiTS, is run jointly by the Vienna Technical University, the University of Vienna and ZIT (Centre for Innovation and Technology). It regards itself as a fulcrum for attracting suitable ideas, competencies, resources and human potential.

This "university start-up service" is promoted, amongst others, by the Vienna Business Agency (WWFF). The prizes are sponsored, on the other hand, by enterprises (including Kapsch, Bayer and Frequentis) with the highest national or international status in the individual categories.
