Vienna, ahoy!
A trip from Vienna to Bratislava by ship is an experience that both locals and tourists don’t want to miss. A new landing stage for the Twin City Liner in Vienna will further enhance passenger comfort.
The modern ship terminal on the Danube Canal near Schwedenplatz, right in the centre of Vienna, is erected by Wiener Donauraum, a subsidiary of Wien Holding. Managing director Ronald Schrems explains: ‘We will be able to put the new landing stage into operation in time for the peak season in late April/early May.’
Designed to handle around 200,000 passengers per year, the new terminal will also include various restaurants and catering facilities. Schrems has found the ideal partner for the project in Bernd Schlacher, owner of several trendy restaurants in Vienna. Schlacher will take his well-known Motto restaurant to the river: ‘The Motto is an integral part of Vienna’s lifestyle scene and well-known beyond the borders of the city.’
In future a Motto café for a student audience, an elegant Motto restaurant, a take-away shop and room for events such as conferences and parties will make the Danube Canal even more attractive.
Three floors high and 127 metres long, the building stands on stilts and projects eight metres out over the Danube Canal, providing shelter from bad weather for embarking and disembarking passengers.
