College Training along New Lines - Two Cities, one University
The head of the Sales Manager Academy (SMA), Univ.-Prof. DDr Peter Linnert, told wieninternational.at more about the cooperation treaty which has now come into force. “This treaty was concluded in accordance with the Bologna Declaration”, Linnert said.
Study in Vienna, graduate in Bratislava
Viennese students study at the SMA in Vienna, but the university in Bratislava awards them their degree which is recognised throughout Europe, including in Austria. The advantage is that this study-course can be undertaken in tandem with work, in other words the students attend a compact seminar on Saturday while the rest is learnt alone at home using the material provided. Only 9-10 days of physical attendance are obligatory. The written diplomas are completed in German. Tests can also be taken on weekends.
This cooperation is necessary because the SMA is only authorised to award the academic degree of “Master of Business Administration” but not, for example, a doctorate. The SMA therefore acts as a branch of the private university in Bratislava.
Guaranteed college place
Univ.-Prof. DDr Peter Linnert: “There is no point in students being matriculated at the Vienna Economics University if they then do not have a college place. We, however, can guarantee a college place. We cope with about 100 students every year.”
Small groups, each composed of 16 students for every course, are offered the possibility of undertaking Master, Doctor or Bachelor studies. Depending on the length of attendance, between 4 and 6 semesters, the costs amount to between € 21,900 and € 27,300. The fees are shared with the private university in Bratislava.
Privatisation of the universities
Linnert also explained that the EU was anyway anxious to promote privatisation of the universities. “This cooperation is intended on our part to be a Europe wide pioneering model and will be followed up by further international activities. Cooperative ventures with Germany and east European countries are in preparation. We will soon be concluding similar treaties with the cities of Pécs and Budapest in Hungary.”
