Summer University in Montenegro
From 18 August to 8 September 2006 the Vienna University for Economics and Business Administration (WU) is running a summer university in Budva, Montenegro. Students will have an opportunity to become more closely acquainted with developments in the countries of south-east Europe.
Joint learning
The summer university has been organised in cooperation with the partner universities of Sarajevo and Mostar (Bosnia-Herzegovina), the university of Montenegro and the colleges of Shkoder (Albania) and Priština (Kosovo). 20 students from the Vienna WU and 10 students from each of the partner imstitutions will for the first time have a chance to learn and work together. On the curriculum are international trade, marketing and management, European integration, language courses and economic developments in south-east Europe. The instruction is all in English.
"For the WU this is a complete break-through in its central European activities", says Christoph Badelt, the WU Rector. "We are giving our students the unique chance of experiencing at first hand the situation in our neighbouring countries and to make an important contribution towards the understanding of various cultures."
Vienna WU summer universities
The Summer University South Eastern Europe in the picturesque coastal town of Budva is the latest addition to a long-standing central, south and east European focal point of instruction at the Vienna University of Economics. This year, for example, the summer university in Kiev is being held (2-21 July 2006) for the 14th time. And for the 13th time students from Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina are gathering this year at the International Summer University Alpen Adria" in Trogir, Croatia. In Constanta (Romania) a summer university is also taking place (3-22 September) for the second time. A regular feature is the "Erste Bank Summer University Danubia" (2-29 July 2006) which takes the form of a study trip to partner universities in Zagreb, Belgrade, Budapest, Bratislava, Prague and Vienna.
International understanding
The programme is financed by OEZA (Austrian Cooperation and Eastern Cooperation). The aim is to promote international understanding among the countries involved. In planning is a regular exchange of students and contacts between academic personnel. One of the main motives behind OEZA is therefore to make an important contribution towards securing peace in the region.| Info |
